For the first time in a long time I’m excited about the new baseball season.

I grew up going to Dodger games. When I was a kid they weren’t the only team in town but they were the only team I cared about. My Dad and I had matching Dodger jackets we’d wear to the games and we never forgot to bring our gloves in the hope of shagging a foul ball.

Needless to say, Dodger Stadium, Vin Scully and Farmer John Dodger Dogs hold a very special place in my heart. I remember Tommy Lasorda, Kirk Gibson, Orel Hershiser and the 1988 World Series like it happened yesterday.

What did happen yesterday revived those feelings at least a little bit: Joe Torre won one in Dodger Blue.

I never really stopped being a fan but I think I lost a bit of love for the game, as did many, during the “Steroids Era.” But now, between Torre and the Dodgers and watching this kid from Central Oregon inspire my AL favorites, I gotta say I’m a “Fan”-atic again.
