My son was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome/high-functioning Autism a few years ago. My family is very fortunate, however, because with intensive therapy during his early years he has made dramatic improvement since his diagnosis.

But over the past few years I have been exposed to a world that most people never see: a world of kids that are literally forsaken. Forsaken by their community and society in general. Most importantly, forsaken by a basic healthcare and education system that cannot begin to help them. Many times they are forsaken by their own families.

Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S. Autism Speaks, the most prominent force for bringing awareness to this epidemic, has put together a short documentary that gives a glimpse of what is like to be a parent of a child with Autism and I recommend it to you.
